RUTGERS PREPARATORY SCHOOL UPPER SCHOOL FOREIGN LANGUAGE 2012-­2013 COURSE: AP FRENCH TEACHER: BRIGID O’LEARY COURSE LENGTH: 1 YEAR, COURSE CREDIT: 1 CREDIT Course Description: AP French Language and Culture is a college-­‐level course designed to refine students’ listening, speaking and writing skills through a variety of activities and assessments. The primary learning objective is to expand students’ knowledge of the Francophone world, in a global context. The six themes outlined by the AP College Board (Families & Communities, Personal & Public Identities, Global Challenges, Beauty & Aesthetics and Science & Technology) will provide the framework and real-­‐life setting for the course. Students will practice and apply interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communicative skills in order to process, analyze, compare/contrast, and develop a more profound understanding of course material. The teacher will use French almost exclusively in the classroom and students are encouraged to do the same. The teacher will foster a nurturing and supportive learning environment in which students feel empowered and validated by communicating effectively. Those enrolled in the AP French Language and Culture course will be required to take the AP exam.
