In 2003, Schoel began working with the Inuit of sub-arctic Canada as a video editor and writer on a long-running series of television documentaries for APTN (the Aboriginal People’s Television Network). In 2008, Schoel’s first feature as screenwriter was released across Canada, “Adam’s Wall”, about a Jewish boy who falls in love with an Arab girl (nominated for a Jutra award for best supporting actress), based on his experience at student riots against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Schoel’s latest collaborations include developing a live-action 3D feature about Inuit and Vikings with the team behind the Cannes winning film, “Atarnajuat the Fast Runner”, as well as writing and editing a documentary about this pioneering group of Inuit filmmakers. Schoel is also developing a TV series about food in China with his wife Li Li for Muse Entertainment, and has worked as a promotional writer and researcher on the Imax films “Ultimate Rescue 3D” and “Rocky Mountain Express”. “The Fantastic Bus” is his first short, independent film. Schoel has received numerous awards and grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des Arts et des Lettres de Quebec, SODEC, Telefilm Canada, and is a member of the Writer’s Guild of Canada.
