Madeleine Dowdalkin, President of the AF from 1969 to1970, has just moved to Brookdale Manor at 6385 Brookdale Drive, Carmel. Madeleine was an excellent leader and hostess, often sharing her home for gatherings. She would very much appreciate cards and visits. Nature Hike and Lunch at Rocky Point
The AF organized a nature hike and lunch at Rocky Point Restaurant on Saturday, 18 April. Well-­‐
attended, everyone enjoyed the beauty of Big Sur and the camaraderie. Reminder
We remind those members who have not renewed their membership to please do so immediately. The updated 2015 roster was sent out at the end of February with the names of paid members. Please renew and you will be added to the roster and receive the newsletter with the list of the AF’s interesting events. All donations should be tax deductible. Upcoming Events in May
As usual, the AF is offering the following activities in May: Café Conversation, Soirée Video, lunch at PÂTISSERIE BECHLER, and the Cercle du Livre. (Cf. Activities Calendar at the beginning of the Bulletin for details.) Thanks go to Pauline Cantin and Pascale Richards-­‐Deliens for the many hours they spend organizing these educational events. Concerning the Soirée Video, please see the details in the Soirée Video section in the Bulletin. Regarding the Cercle du Livre, in March and April, Pascale Richards-­‐Deliens guided a group of readers through Maurice et l’anonyme tirailleur sénégalais by Isaline Remy. On Saturday, April 25, 4:00 PM, P. Richards-­‐Deliens’ home, 3097 Stevenson Drive, Pebble Beach, CA. she will continue the presentation. Please call to make reservations—831-­‐333-­‐6677. The Church in the Forest The AF will sponsor another opportunity to attend the delightful event-­‐-­‐Le Mariage de la Poésie et de la Musique—French Poetry and Art Song Settings by French Composers, at The Church in the Forest, 3152 Forest Lake Road, Pebble Beach, CA, on Sunday, 17 May, 4:00 P.M. Melinda Armstead is the pianist; Katherine Edison, soprano, and Bob Armstead, bass-­‐baritone, will sing. This scholarship fund-­‐raising event will consist of the reading of a series of poems by French poets Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine, and others. Each reading, by local French students guided by Dr. Gisèle Kapuscinski, will be followed by a musical rendition of the poem sung by one or both of the singers. The film on 9 May at Pauline Cantin’s home (17 Via Ladera, Monterey, CA) at 7:00 PM will be Une Hirondelle a fait le printemps. Directed by Christian Carion, the film is about Sandrine, a woman in her thirties who gets tired of Paris life and decides to leave her work in the computer field to become a farmer.
