PREVIEW : PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN - STADE DE REIMS
Paris Saint-Germain - Stade de Reims Feature Preview
After their European exploits in midweek, Paris Saint-Germain return to domestic matters on Saturday with Stade de Reims the
visitors to the Parc des Princes.
Chelsea FC were in Reims' place on Tuesday evening for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Last 16 tie with PSG, and
found the hosts in particularly brilliant form. Laurent Blanc's men, who have a massive 24-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table,
were superb in a 2-1 win that came courtesy of goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and substitute Edinson Cavani.
"It was one of our best performances of the season, in terms of intensity and the quality of our play," said midfielder Blaise Matuidi,
whose side head to Stamford Bridge for the second leg on 9 March. "It had been a while since we had been at that level in those two
areas. We just lacked more goals, but it's good to have won the first leg. We're going to continue working to try and repeat that kind of
performance there with qualification for the next round at the end of it."
While it was an excellent team display, goalkeeper Kevin Trapp stood out. Though the Ligue 1-leading attack was unable to capitalise
fully on their side's possession, their German goalkeeper made a clutch of crucial saves, notably a brilliant instinctive stop to block a
Diego Costa header in the first half.
"Certainly," replied coach Laurent Blanc when asked whether Trapp - a summer arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt - had produced one of
his best European performances in a PSG shirt. "He hasn't played a lot of Champions League games. That could be a benchmark
display, but there will be others. He played very well, I'm happy about that. He's also important for us in building play from the back,
because his ability with the ball at his feet helps us keep possession."
Trapp's form in particular and that of PSG in general bodes ill for Reims. Though PSG saw their run of nine successive victories
ended by the goalless draw at home to LOSC Lille last time out, Reims have not managed to pick up so much as a point from their
last four visits to the capital, and have not won there in more than 40 years.
Their more recent form does not promise much either. Though they recorded back-to-back wins - their first victories of 2016 - in
Weeks 24 and 25, they were beaten again last weekend, slipping up 1-0 at home to SC Bastia to leave themselves just a place and
two points above the relegation zone.
"I am very disappointed, very frustrated, and also angry, because they had the opportunity to make a big difference," said coach
Olivier Guégan, whose side were as high as fourth after Week 8. "We lacked many things: obviously technical quality, but also
cohesion. I decided to change the game plan at halftime, to give weight to attacking. It's really disappointing, we had to show another
face in order to expect better. It was a pivotal game for us."

- This time last season, Paris were second with 52 points, two points behind leaders Olympique Lyonnais.

against Toulouse FC, Olympique Lyonnais and Angers SCO, four in defeats of FC Nantes, AS Saint-Etienne and ESTAC Troyes, and
three against AS Monaco, EA Guingamp, Nice, SM Caen and FC Lorient.
- Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the leading scorer in Ligue 1 with 21 goals, all of which have come in his last 18 appearances. Edinson Cavani
has scored 11 while Ángel Di María has nine and Lucas Moura has five.
- In all competitions, Ibrahimovic has 28 goals. He has scored 11 goals in 11 games in 2016. Cavani has 15, Di María has 13 and

- PSG's 2014-15 title triumph was their fifth and their third in a row (1986, '94, 2013 and 2014). They have won nine Coupes de
France (1982, '83, '93, '95, '98, 2004, '06, '10 and '15), and five Coupes de la Ligue (1995, '98, 2008, '14 and '15) after completing an
unprecedented domestic quadruple (with the Trophée des Champions) in the 2014-15 campaign.
- PSG ended last season on 83 points, eight clear of second-placed Olympique Lyonnais and 12 ahead of AS Monaco in third.
- PSG became only the second French club to win a European trophy when they beat Rapid Vienna to the 1996 UEFA Cup Winners
Cup' title.
- PSG play at the 48,712-seat Parc des Princes. The ground is being refurbished for EURO 2016.
- Laurent Blanc was named coach in June 2013 to replace Real Madrid-bound Carlo Ancelotti. He won the treble of Ligue 1 (with a

with 28 goals. His 30-goal haul in 2012-13 made him the first player since Olympique de Marseille's Jean-Pierre Papin in 1989-90 to
score 30 in a single Ligue 1 season.
- PSG broke the French transfer record in July 2013, paying Napoli a reported 64 million euros for Cavani.
Stade de Reims

a long-awaited return to the top flight in the 2012-2013 season.
- They have won the French title six times (1949, '53, '55, '58, '60, '62) and the Coupe de France twice (1950, '58). They are best
known for two brave European Cup final defeats to Real Madrid (1956, '59).
