The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Disney characters
The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Disney characters perverted in sick 'toon porn' images Written by Paul Smith SICKENING images based on Simpsons, Family Guy, Scooby Doo and other well-loved cartoon characters are at the centre of a growing internet child pornography menace. The depraved and illegal images, known as 'Toon Porn' or 'Hentai', are based on famous cartoon icons but they are redrawn by unknown amatuers as taking part in sex acts. At one end of the spectrum cartoons of Marge from The Simpsons and Lois from Family Guy appear in fairly tame lingerie sketches (example above right). But at the other end there are hundreds of websites offering cartoonised images of child sexual abuse involving characters which appear indistinguishable from Lisa and Bart Simpson, Family Guy baby Stewie, and many well-loved Disney and Hannah Barbera favourites. And, though they may be in cartoon form, the sickening images are both grotesque and entirely illegal. However, unlike many internet child pornographers who take great pains to remain concealed, and operate in shadowy areas of the internet known as 'the darknet', the artists behind this type of material are proud of their work and the images are just one click away from major search engines. 1/2 The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Disney characters perverted in sick 'toon porn' images Written by Paul Smith Not only are the pictures easy for children to stumble across by accident but they are illegal to view in most countries. The concept of Toon Porn is so new that the Ministry of Justice only raised the alarm in 2010 and advised UK website watchdog the Internet Watch Foundation to extend its hotline to cover 'non-photographic visual depictions of the sexual abuse of children'. In first year alone there were more than 550 complaints. However, if the web server containing the images is based outside the UK the IWF is all but powerless to take action. Emma Lowther, Communications Manager for the IWF, said: “These images may be cartoons but they are treated extremely seriously. It is an important part of our remit and one of our three core areas. “However we are only able to take action when they are hosted in the UK.” At least two men – one in the USA and one in Australia - have been convicted of possessing child pornography involving Simpsons-like characters. 2/2
