Leaflets for the Enemy of
World War I and II in Europe
Note:
each volume of the 20 leaflet series available at the moment is a complete
documentation. The leaflets of each series are illustrated in colour and are listed in a
bibliography in every volume.
In addition an introduction and an appendix provide an insight into secret organisations
which produced and disseminated billions of single information sheets and organized
dissemination in enemy territory.
Each leaflet series and volume is arranged chronologically i.e. in the order leaflets had
been dispatched and received by the individual civilian or soldieron the other side of the
front. The format of the volumes is 23 x 32 cm or 21 x 30 cm respectively.
The numbers of pages per volume vary from 250 to over 700 and the weight from over
2 to over 4 Kilograms. For more information on how to order, see end of this volume.

An illustrated History
of World War II
in Aerial Propaganda
Leaflets
Almost anything of importance
happening during WW II, from
1939 to 1945, was addressed by
leaflets. Of course, leaflets
coming from the enemy are not
disseminated to amuse or
inform the reader. As a weapon
of warfare leaflets are sent to the
enemy to try to influence him to
think and act in such a way as
to give advantage to the sender.
To achieve this goal facts, lies,
illustrations are used
accordingly.

The most extensive “black” leaflet
propaganda campaign in World
War II was conducted by SovietRussia against the German
Wehrmacht, see opposite illustration.
Using the flag of the German
Empire
“black-white-red” the Soviet
Union founded the “National
Committee ‘Free Germany’ “
and used it for propaganda
purposes only.
German soldiers and officers in
Soviet captivity were invited to
join this movement.

“The most important thing about a war is to
come back home alive.” This motto the British

“black” propaganda to their respective enemies
during World War II.
Detailed advice is given on how to lie and
cheat successfully in war and avoid death on
the battle field.

description of camouflage covers that had been
used in World War II are part of this

Staline parle Stalin spricht

in Rußland
Tracts aériens soviétiques destinés aux
Alsaciens obligés de servir dans la
Wehrmacht de 1942 à 1945.
Sowjetische Kriegsflugblätter für Elsässer,
die in den Jahren 1942 bis 1945 in der
deutschen Wehrmacht dienen mußten.
Stalin speaks to Alsatians in Russia.
Soviet aerial propaganda leaflets addressed to Alsacians who
fought in the German Wehrmacht 1942 to 1945.
Stalin’s Soviet propagandists addressed some of their leaflets to a relatively small
part of the German Wehrmacht, a minority group of young German speaking
Alsatians who had to serve together with German soldiers in Russia. But besides
these few addressees this campaign was intended to reach all the ordinary German
soldiers as well. They were made to believe that there were some soldiers amongst
them who had a good reason for not wanting to die for Hitler and were not
prepared to do their utmost. Some of these leaflets contained the names and
addresses of Alsatian soldiers taken prisoner by the Red Army:
“Weeks after I had been taken prisoner in Russia my wife found two leaflets in her
garden, which had been disseminated in Russia reporting my capture. Another
Alsatian soldier had evidently brought the leaflets home on leave and dropped
them in our garden. He did not deliver the leaflets himself to avoid detection.”

“The Tragedy of Aachen.
Enemy Leaflets During the Battles for Aachen.”
Aachen, the first major German town occupied in 1944 by American troops was
also a battle fought with the non-lethal weapons of psychological warfare.
Thirty different leaflets disseminated by both sides are documented and described
in German. An example is reproduced above:
“This darling daughter of a GI is waiting in vain. Her daddy was killed in action
in the Aachen sector. She will never understand what for...”.
The complete leaflet is reproduced in volume 16, page 386. On the reverse a USnewspaper is reporting: “Nazis Found Fair to Yank Wounded...”

Leaflet Rockets for Sale!
Description:
After printing of the lafelts was
done on the order of the 6, the
6 leaflet dissemination team
took over, rolled the leaflets and
placed them inside the rockets
“Propaganda Geschoß 41” (Pr
Gs 41) (see illustration).
On receiving information where
leaflets could be disseminated
with best results Wehrmacht
command was informed and
subsequently front line soldiers
evacuated to avoid losses by
retaliatory fire from American
artillery.
The 6 dissemination team drove
up close to the front line, set up
their launchers, and fired them.
The leaflet rockets left the firing
pad leaving a trail of smoke and
fire which was easily detected by
American observers. Then the
launchers were quickly dumped
on trucks and everybody took
off rapidly to avoid the
American artillery fire.
Note:
For more information see next
page and volumes 16 and 17:

American and Allied Soldiers in

Leaflet Rockets for Sale
6-L
Offered for sale are leaflet rockets “Propaganda Geschoß 41” (Pr Gs 41).
The rockets are deactivated and completely empty of propellant, black powder or
leaflets. In the first years after World War II it was occasionally possible to find
leaflet rockets “Pr Gs 41” which had misfired and buried themselves below ground.
The leaflet rockets offered here come from my collection. They are complete and
consist of the following parts:
Q Rocket body, as illustrated below with anticorrosive paint on outside.
Q Bakelite nose cap.
Q Tube with split case to accommodate leaflet roll and keep it from crinkling.
Q Baffle plate to push the leaflet roll out of the rocket tube.
Q Spreading spring to open the roll of leaflets after ejection.
The rocket body is about 16 inches in length, with a maximum external diameter
of 2,9 inches and a weight of less than 7 lbs. The interesting parts are the base
venting venturis, half of which are inclined to rotate and stabilized the rocket in
flight, see the illustration.
Due to the actual “War on Terror”, shipment is not possible.
Illustration of base of leafler rocket.
Note the percussion cap in the
centre of the rocket and the slanted
venturi at the rim.
Leaflet rocket as
described above.
“Feldgrau” paint and
stenciling.
Leaflet rocket as
described above.
