IMEX-MPI-MCI-GMIC Green Meetings – Future Leaders Forum at The GMIC Sustainable Meetings Conference Date Sunday April 22, 2012 • Time: 10:00am- 4:30pm • Venue: Hilton Bonaventure, Lachine The Future Leaders Forum (FLF) program jointly run by IMEX, MPI (Meeting Professionals International) and MCI, has been developed to encourage the best and brightest students to enter the meetings and incentive travel industry. Through partnership, GMIC and IMEX seek to design a FLF centered on challenging students to understand the environmental and social impacts of meeting planning and at the same time engage with industry stakeholders to create the perfect event of the future. This event will balance strategic meeting management skills (planning, partnering, implementation and evaluation) with sustainability frameworks and standards (process and metrics of green events). IMEX-MCI Future Leaders Forum – at GMIC 2012 Sustainable Meetings Conference Sustainability Theory Meets Reality Join industry sustainability leaders and increase your knowledge and understanding of sustainable event issues and impacts in context to meeting planning from a global perspective. By participating you will have the opportunity to evaluate sustainability in hotel operations, from policy to performance; by engaging in a back of the house tour of the Hilton Bonaventure. They will also have the chance to experience the process of site selection with the integration of sustainable elements as a key organization decision factor. The Future Leaders Forum is free for the first 50 students that register, Register Here Networking Reception Participants are encouraged to stay and network at the GMIC Sustainable Meetings Conference Opening Exhibitor Reception from 6:00pm-8:00pm in the Mount Royal meeting room. Scholarship Opportunity The Future Leaders Forum is a free event for students. For students interested in attending the event and staying on for the GMIC Sustainable Meetings Conference, The GMIC Sustainable Meetings Foundation, Nancy Zavada Scholarship will cover travel, lodging and approved onsite expenses up to $1,000 USD in value. GMIC will cover the cost of student registration (value $175) for the scholarship award winner. To learn more and apply for the scholarship click here Volunteer Opportunity at Sustainable Meetings Conference If you are interested in being a volunteer at the 2012 Sustainable Meetings Conference in Montreal, we are looking for volunteers to help our logistics team from April 23rd -25th. You will have the opportunity to learn about sustainable meetings practices behind the scenes and also gain experience working to put on an event. The volunteers will need to cover their own lodging expenses. Breakfast and lunch meals, while volunteering will be covered. Future Leader Forum Session Speakers Paul Salinger, VP Marketing ORACLE, GMIC President Paul Salinger is a Vice President of Marketing for Oracle, responsible for strategic messaging and communications, creative concepting and working across marketing to translate messaging for events and marketing campaigns designed for audience engagement. In 2007, Paul took on the role of champion, strategist and evangelizer for Oracle’s global green meetings initiatives and has been leading the effort to bring sustainability into the event marketing practice as a core value and standard business practice. In 2009, Oracle OpenWorld was awarded an IMEX Silver Award for green meetings. Stephanie Berger, The Climate Reality Project Stephanie received her BA (Honours) in Geography at Queen's University (Kingston, Ontario) and spent a decade on Wall Street, in London, and in Paris facilitating Initial Public Offerings and compliance filings before returning to do her MBA at McGill. Currently, Stephanie is working toward her PhD in Management at Concordia's John Molson School of Business. Her research areas include corporate social responsibility and sustainable development, middle management leadership, and organizational change. Stephanie is a Board Member for the David O'Brien Centre for Sustainable Enterprise and for VisibleGovernment.ca, and she is a career and business consultant for CSR and Sustainability. Steve Faulstick, General Manager Portland DoubleTree, GMIC Treasurer His home base is the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Portland Oregon. His area of responsibility has him overseeing Doubletree Hotels in Sacramento, Berkeley, and Omaha Nebraska. In 2006, the hotel became Oregon’s first Green Seal Certified Hotel. Since then, the property has become an industry leader in sustainability, receiving local-, state- and national-level recognition for their efforts. The hotel was recognized as well with AH&LA’s ‘Good Earthkeeping’ award for their leadership in this area. Steve is an active board member with Travel Portland, The Natural Step, Green Meetings Industry Council and the Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association. Shawna McKinley, Sustainability Director MeetGreen Shawna McKinley has over 10 years’ experience advising corporations and associations in how to improve their events through more sustainable practices. As Director of Sustainability for MeetGreen she has helped five different clients earn IMEX's prestigious Green Meetings Award. She's passionate about building a change movement that engages and celebrates event producers who innovate by doing better with less harm. Marion Ancel, Eco Director Tourism Montreal Ms. Ancel obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A) degree from HEC, Montréal, with a specialization in Tourism Management and Administration. She also holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Development Administration and Management granted jointly by the Université de Sherbrooke and the Université de Tours (France). She offers expertise in the fields of tourism and sustainable development through her professional experience as a sustainable development consultant for the firm Transfert Environnement, as well as through her own involvement in the Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism launched by the United National Environment Programme, Marion is implicating Tourisme Montréal in international sustainable tourism development.
