A lot of the song titles on the new Accessory double album are pointing in an obvious direction: the band is aiming a lot more at the dance floor, again. Dirk agrees:
I would even go so far as to say that this is the most dance-compatible album
we have ever done. I was aiming to give the fans the essence of the Accessorysound: extravagant, smashing and clubby EBM. A song like ‚Tanzflächenmann‘ is
the expression of this aim.“ It is little wonder, then, that the new album features
picture perfect fat beatsand modern EBM-sounds galore: „More Than Machinery“
is perfect material to shake that booty and get shaken by solid bass. But the more
socially critical side that has always been a part of Accessory is also not neglected in all this floor burning inferno. A machine can always only be as effective as
the person at the helm. Accessory thus chose the album title rather deliberately:
„The title is derived from my favorite song on the album, ‚Humanity.‘ The chorus
sports the lines: ‚More than machinery, we need humanity!‘ and the song was
inspired by the final speech in Chaplin‘s ‚The Great Dictator!‘ This love for the
human factor and humanity shows in every second of Accessory‘s music - their
electronic club inferno is never cold, but hits you in the head with honest emotions
and human energy.
After Ivo leaving the band last year, Accessory are now working as a duo again.
The new guy is also in a way a return to the roots for the group. Dirk explains: „It‘s
funny, but Mike is actually a really long-time friend of mine. When we played our
first show with Accessory in 1997, he was on stage with us as a guest keyboard
player. Last year, after Ivo had left, I was searching for creative people that are
also good stage performers. Wenn I came across Mike again, I knew that he was
both, so he had to be the man. I do think that you hear a new wind blowing from
within the band when you listen to the new album.“ Oh yes, one surely does...

Diverse Songtitel auf dem neuen Accessory-Doppelschlag, „More Than Machinery“, lassen es bereits erahnen: die Band zielt wieder deutlich mehr auf die Tanzmuskeln. Dirk bestätigt: „ich würde sogar sagen, dass das neue Album tanzbarer
geworden ist, als je zuvor. Es war natürlich schon mein Ziel, den Fans wieder den
typischen Accessory-Sound zu bieten: ausgefallenen, knallenden und tanzbaren
EBM. Der Titel ‚Tanzflächenmann‘ spiegelt das ja auch wider!“ So bietet das neue
Album dann auch dicke Beats und moderne EBM-Sounds aus dem Bilderbuch:
„More Than Machinery“ bietet das perfekte Material, um die Gliedmaßen zu schütteln und sich vom Bass durchrocken zu lassen. Die nachdenkliche und kritische
Seite der Band kommt trotz des gesteigerten Beat-Gewitters jedoch auch nicht zu
kurz: jede Maschine ist nur so effektiv, wie der Mensch, der sie programmiert. In
dieser Hinsicht haben Accessory den Albumtitel mit Bedacht gewählt: „Der Titel lag
relativ nahe, denn er entstammt meinem Lieblingssong auf dem Album: ‚Humanity‘. Dessen Refrain lautet: „More than machinery, we need humanity!“ Inspiriert
wurde der Song durch die Schlussrede in Charlie Chaplins ‚The Great Dictator‘ (...
ein glühendes Plädoyer für die Menschlichkeit!)“ Diese Liebe zum Human Factor
und der Menschlichkeit hört man in jeder Sekunde von Accessorys Musik - das
elektronische Club Inferno klingt niemals kalt, sondern ist voll von ehrlichen Emotionen und menschlicher Energie.
Accessory sind auf dem Album, nach dem Ausstieg von Ivo, endlich wieder zu
zweit am Werk, was sicherlich auch einigen frischen Wind in die Songs und die
Arbeitsweise gebracht hat. Auch der Neuzugang führt die Band in gewisser Weise zurück zu den Wurzeln, wie Dirk erzählt: „Du wirst lachen, aber der Mike ist
eigentlich ein ganz alter Bekannter von mir, der schon auf dem ersten Accessory
Konzert 1997 als Gast-Keyboarder auf der Bühne gestanden hat. Ich war nach
Ivos Ausstieg im letzten Jahr auf der Suche nach kreativen Köpfen und guten Live
Performern. Bei Mike wusste ich, dass er beides ist, also wurde schnell klar: er
ist es. Ich denke, man hört auf der neuen CD, dass bei Accessory ein neuer Wind
weht.“ Das tut man... freut Euch auf einen DER Club Knaller des Jahres!
