Central Pennsylvania American Association of Teachers of German http://centralpaaatg.wikispaces.com/ Join us for the Central PA-AATG Spring Meeting 2015 What We Have in Common: Fostering Transcultural Competence Through Authentic Materials Workshop by Christina Frei and Bridget Swanson, University of Pennsylvania This workshop draws on the AP framework for World Languages and translates a theme-based approach to first-year language instruction. The presenters discuss strategies for creating modules that are thematically engaging, based in authentic materials, and foster transcultural competence from the start. Topics include how to structure modules around essential questions, how to integrate reflective journaling, and how to didacticize authentic material for the beginner.
