Annette Krebs has been connected with music since her childhood. She studied music at
"Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst" in Frankfurt/Main and finished her studies
1992 with the diploma. In the same time, she worked in painting.
Since 1993 she has lived in Berlin and developed her own musical vocabulary.
She works within the field of electro-acoustic music, using tones, noises, field-recordings,
silences and language to create acoustic collages and sculptures.
She composes music for loudspeakers, which are played live and independently from
each other. The concert space itself is often integrated in the composition.
In different Duos and ensembles, she is collaborating with musicians, composers,
performers and visual artists.
She has performed in numerous festivals in Europe, the USA, Canada and Japan,
including Donaueschinger Musiktage (D), Amplify (USA), Vancouver New Music (CA),
Exposition of New Music, Ostrava Days (CZ), Sonoric Perspectives (SE), Musique Action
(FR), LMC-Festival (UK), Dublin Electronic Arts Festival DEAF (IE), Nous Sons (ES),
Musique Actuelle (CA), What is Music (AU), Festival International de Música
Contemporánea de Alicante (ES)
Beside many musical collaborations, among others with David Dove, Taku Unami, JeanLuc Guillonet, Andrea Neumann, Sven-Åke Johansson, Lucio Capece, Anthea Caddy,
Johnny Chang, Robin Hayward, Chris Abrahams, Luca Venitucci, Rhodri Davies, Taku
Sugimoto, Toshimaru Nakamura, Peter Cusack, Bhob Rainey, Birgit Ulherr, Wade
Matthews, Daniel Meyer Gronewold, Alessandro Bosetti, Kerstin Fuchs, Andrea Ermke
and Michael Vorfeld, she composed a.o. for the Berlin Ensembles "Maulwerker",
"Phosphor", "Zeitkratzer" and "Les femmes savantes" and participated in projects of
"Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin".
She was presenting her work in workshops, lectures and conferences in- and outside of
Europe, including the Adelaide Festival (AU), School of the Chicago Art Institute SAIC and
Janácek Academy of Music and Performing Arts, Brno (CZ)
Her music was presented and discussed in journals and in radio, among others in:

"Annette Krebs is teaching us, to listen again and again to this, what we were assuming to know since
long time ago. Even the most common sound, we are motivated to listen to in new ways. Her music is
floating lithely in the mystical space between live and art, where Robert Rauschenberg was once
speaking about.“
Jaroslav Stastny, His Voice, Prague 2008
"Annette Krebs belongs to the real renovators and pioneers in Berlin; a re inventor of sound of
distinction"
Thomas Millroth, Nutida Musik, Stockholm 2007
""Ausculation" , medicines are calling the listening in to sounds, arising in the inside of a body. Annette
Krebs is applying this method on her instrument, screening it like with the use of a stethoscope. The
guitar is carefully wired, amplified and distorted, until a ball of sound is arising. It is more difficult to
identify with a 6-string plucked instrument; it is easier to identify with a vital organism"
Björn Gottstein, WDR 3, Germany 2004
"Extreme, minimal music, hesitating at the edge of complete silence: the berlin guitarist
Annette Krebs is practicing fundamental researches in the border areas of human perception"
Thomas Winkler, Taz, Germany 2003
"With the release of her first solo album, Berlin-based Annette Krebs has propelled herself into the front
rank of guitar improvisers "
Clive Bell, The Wire, London 2002
