Customs Bond
Goods can be deposited in the Customs Bond for
three days without payment of storage fees.
Thereafter, storage fees must be paid as a
condition for removing the goods from Bond.
If the goods are not removed from Bond within 30
days, Customs may treat the goods as unclaimed
goods.
If you are a transit passenger, goods or items may
be kept in the Customs Bond pending your
departure. A storage fee is chargeable.

Useful Hints
Do not be tempted to carry goods for other
people
If you do, and the goods are, or contain prohibited,
controlled, restricted or dutiable items, you will be
held liable.
Take care when declaring to Customs
Declare any goods which you think may fall under
the category of prohibited, restricted or controlled
goods and any item in excess of your duty-free
concessions. Please declare your goods fully and
correctly to Customs.
Faster baggage examination
Pack your baggage in a manner that will make
inspection easy. You are required to produce,
open, unpack your baggage for Customs
examination and to repack it thereafter.

for travellers arriving and departing by air.

Declaration
Declaration to Customs
When you clear Customs with your baggage,
please:

declare orally to Customs the goods in
your possession such as gifts for other
people, articles carried for someone else,
articles for sale and commercial samples.

produce to Customs any prohibited,
restricted and controlled goods. Import
Permit and other documents for restricted
items are required.
A Customs declaration must be completed for all
dutiable goods in your possession.
If all the articles you have to declare are entitled to
duty-free concessions under the exemptions
allowed, you do not need to fill a declaration.
However, Customs Officer may request you to
declare all articles brought into the Maldives
and/or check the baggage against oral and/or
written declaration.
All goods imported into the Maldives are
subject to import duty, unless otherwise
exempted.
Passengers carrying dutiable goods in
commercial quantities are required to
produce Commercial Invoice, Import
License, Customs Declaration and any other
permits/documents necessary for clearance
of goods.
Duty Exemptions
You are entitled to an exemption on the following
items if they are for personal use, belong to you
and accompany you and is for a reasonable
quantity.

Wearing apparel
Jewellery, watches and pens
Toiletries
Books, magazines, and newspapers
Cameras and portable radios.
For adults over 16 years, 200 cigarettes or 25
cigars and 200g of tobacco are also exempt from
duty.
In addition, you are also entitled to an exemption
on dutiable goods valued Rf. 2,000.00. This
exemption is not applicable to goods carried in
commercial quantities.

films, DVDs, VCDs, LDs
Telecommunication and Radio Communication
Equipment
