Jörg Vollerthun - trombone / artdirector
Born in Neubrandenburg, Jörg Vollerthun began his musical studies on the trombone at the age of 18.
From 2003 to 2008 he studied jazz trombone in Berlin at the "Hanns Eisler" Hochschule für Musik and
the Jazz-Institut Berlin. His teachers include: Georgie Ianef, Sören Fischer, Nils Landgren, Prof. John
Hollenbeck, Prof. Jiggs Whigham, Prof. Malte Burba und Prof. Ludwig Nuss. Jörg has played in theater
and music productions in the Neuköllner Oper, the Landestheater Neustrelitz, Performdance as well as
various formations in clubs and in festivals in Denmark, Germany, England, France, Italy, Mexico,
Poland and the United States.
Nils Marquardt - trombone
Nils Marquardt was born in 1982 and grew up on the island of Rügen. He began his musical
studies at the age of 4 which led him from alto and tenor horn to trombone in 1998. In 1998, Nils
Marquardt began taking lessons from Prof. Harry Lehmann at the Conservatory in Rostock, then
in 2002 was accepted as a "young student" to study classical trombone at the Hochschule für
Musik und Theater Rostock. At the same time, Nils Marquardt took lessons from Sören Fischer,
Dan Gottshall, Nils Landgren and Chris Fidler. From 2004-2006 he studied at the Hochschule
für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin and at the Jazz-Institut Berlin since 2006 with Prof. Jiggs
Whigham, Prof. Malte Burba and Prof. Ludwig Nuss. The first important stations along his
musical path were the Landesjugendjazzorchester Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg,
Berlin and Hessen along with the appointment to the Bundesjugendjazzorchester under the
direction of Peter Herboltsheimer. His other passion is the drums, which he studies parallel to
the trombone since 2005 at the Jazz-Institut Berlin. Along with his versitile concert activites on
the trombone, Nils Marquardt is active as a teacher.

Philipp Domke - trombone
Philipp Domke was born in 1980 in Köthen, and grew up in Neuruppin. His first musical experiences were
with the recorder and the organ, then later the trombone. After high school and alternative service he
studied jazz trombone at the Musikhochschule "Hanns Eisler" (which later became the Jazz-Institute
Berlin) from 2003-2008 with Prof. Jiggs Whigham, Prof. Ludwig Nuss and Prof. Malte Burba. He has
participated in several big bands (i.e. JJBC, BJJO and Flinstones Big Band). Philipp Domke's musical
activities are multifaceted. Along with band project Sea Breeze, Brumcalli or German Trombone
Vibration, he has also worked as a musician in television productions (Die Flucht, Maria am Wasser).
Stephan "Steve" Pfaff - bass
Stephan "Steve" Pfaff was born in Potsdam in 1985, where he discovered his love for music at an early
age. After extensive studies on the classical guitar, he changed to electric bass to become a more
independant performer and to pursue new musical challenges. He began his studies at the Jazz-Institut
Berlin in 2005 with teachers: Prof. Wolfgang Köhler, Prof. Ludwig Nuss and Max Hughes. Outside of his
studies he is acquiring a name with the formation "Klartext" (which has won many prizes and performed
at festivals) as well as in the Berliner chart success "P.R. Kantate", the musical production "Magic Night
of Dancing Musical" and as a studio bassist for TV and radio.
Michael Rowalska - drums
Michael Rowalska studied drums at the UdK Berlin by Jerry Granelli, Rolo Rodriguez and David Friedman.
He plays as a classical drummer in orchestras, as a Drummer in Jazz- and Big Bands and he can play also
latin percussions. He is the Drummer of the Band “The TobyTones” (Swing, Junpp&Live), the Berliner
Tanzorchestra (BigBand), Roger Pabst And The Swingin´ Strangers (Sinatra Show), Berlin Shimmy
Orchestra, Charlotte and the Luxusboys, The Berliner Grammophoniker and as a Sideman in many other
Bands and Orchestras. Michael Rowalska played and plays for the Capital Dance Orchestra, Alec Wilder
Oktett Berlin, Preußisches Kammerorchester, Ricardo Moreno & Banda, Swing Dance Band & Orchestra,
Jochen Kowalski, Neuköllner Oper, Theater Am Kurfürstendamm, Phantom Der Oper Gala, Star
Entertainment... He was the drum coach of the Blue Man Group Berlin and is a Sub-drummer at the
Berliner Ensemble. He recorded the drums of the new trailer of the Tobis-Filmverleih with the Band
TobyTones.
