The overall sales of the German leather goods and luggage Industry amounted to 260.4 MM Euro

the first half year of 2014, when the complete sales totaled up to 257.3 MM Euro.
The domestic market showed almost stable sales numbers with a slight plus of 0.2 percent.

Abroad the German companies of the leather goods- and luggage industry reached a sales
volume of 70.3 MM Euro in the first half year 2015 whereas the first half year 2014 resulted in
foreign sales of the German companies at 67.7 MM Euro. So the figures show a result of 2.6 MM
Euro or a 3.8 percent increase.
The foreign sales in the first half year 2015 made up for a share of 27 percent of the total sales
of the German leather goods- and luggage industry. Compared to the same period of last year

The number of employees again declined in the first half year 2015. While in the last year’s
period still 1,576 people were employed in the respective companies in Germany the last half
year only still showed 1,482 employees in the German leather goods- and luggage Industry, this
reflecting a drop of -6.0 percent.
The number of employees just refers to companies that are recorded in an official statistic, say
companies with 50 and more people employed. On the whole our industry in Germany occupies
over 3,000 employees in more than 100 companies of the leather goods- and luggage industry.

Outlook
According to a survey of HDS/L among the members of the leather goods industry the second
half year 2015 may result in a stagnating sales development. As to the foreign business the
companies understand that there might even be a slight drop of sales.
Investments and employment in the leather goods industry are expected by the companies as
unvaried for the second half year in 2015.
On the basis of the members survey of the HDS/L and the Ifo-business climate index we expect
for the further course of the year 2015 that the current situation will continue up to the end of
the year. Even though the consumer confidence is still rather good in Germany we only expect
a small plus on the domestic market. The foreign business might show a continuation of
recovering on the important European markets and perhaps even an intensification. For that
reason the sales should reflect a slight plus up to the end of the year.
