ad Packaging Solutions Complete Plug&Pack System for the Packaging Industry Strubl’s solution provides for high flexibility environmental friendliness with reduced costs Whether they are DIY or office items, cosmetic products, sanitation or household items, millions of products await processing and packaging every day. While blister packaging was often used in the past, the packaging industry relies more and more on complete packaging systems like the Plug&Pack System of Wendelstein-based Strubl KG. This third-generation, family owned business produces a broad spectrum of foils and foil-related products made from PE or PP. Strubl KG has developed special and complete Plug&Pack systems above all for packaging challenges characterized by many different variations on small and mid-sized production runs. T he Dresselhaus company, for example, chose one of these solutions. Amongst other things, Dresselhaus produces screws and fasteners that are used in agricultural machinery, the capital goods industry, steel construction, and the manufacture of automobiles and commercial vehicles. Because of the new appearance and a higher level of environmental friendliness, Dresselhaus sought an alternative to blister packaging – and found that alternative in Strubl’s Plug& Pack system. The advantages: Pre-made bags can be printed online with variable article date using the system’s quickchange magazine. This eliminates the need for additional processing steps in the labeling process. “The system is flexible, simple to operate, virtually maintenance free - and environmentally friendly.” Dr. Christoph Strubl, Strubl KG One of the Strubl KG Plug&Pack Pro machines used at Dresselhaus. This technology can produce a relatively large (up to 128 x 300 mm) and high-quality print image. “This allows our customers to give a standard bag a high- • First, the bags are fed to the system • After this, product data is printed – the customer chooses his or her printer model. 2 Printing/Labeling station • In the third step, the bag is opened with air and filled manually, using commercial conveying systems, or by using manual and automated machinery simultaneously. • Bags are sealed using cutand-seal technology. A multi-chamber sealing system makes it possible to also produce multi-packs. After filling, the bags are checked using a weighing system. Functionline bags are suited above all for functional catering and service packs, while Zipline bags are resealable bags with a pressure lock. All product lines include bags 3 Filling station(s) in a range of sizes from 50 x 50 mm to 400 x 800 mm and all mono- or composite materials (e.g., aluminium/PET) can be used and also printed upon. Despite the economic crisis, an increased demand for complete Plug&Pack solutions was evident at all German and European packaging trade fairs. In sectors like DIY, hardware, home im- just like the Dresselhaus company – have been able to compete successfully with this attractive way to present their goods and products. n 4 Sealing “The flexibility of our machines is important above all to those companies that depend on packaging to promote their sales while simultaneously having a complex assortment of products.” Franz Strubl on the occasion of Strubl’s presentation at Fachpack 2009 in Nuremberg Three Product Lines for All Requirements. quality external appearance without having to purchase a printed bag. In addition, many different formats are possible without having to first determine everything down to the last detail,” explains Otto Schuler, a product manager at Strubl. The packaging process consists of four steps: Depending on the intended use, the customer selects his or her bag from three product lines: Decoline bags have a specially reinforced header with Euro-slot for hanging, decorative and high-quality sales packaging – the visually less attractive cardboard slider variant is no longer necessary.
