“Pop-Music for non-conformists“ - a simple
catch phrase that probably best describes the
multi-faceted and fascinating sonic cosmos of
Swedish cult band Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio.
Their new album is titled “Songs 4 Hate & Devotion” and is an emotional rollercoaster ride
driven by the intense voice of Tomas Petterson
that alternates martially majestic monuments of
orchestral sounds, marching drums and percussion with very intimate and fragile moments and
mingles Cold-Wave-, Shoegazing- and Minimalelements with folkloristic structures. “We never
swing just one way. We swing in every direction”, Tomas explains: “Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio
combines simple melodies with eloquent, provocative texts; multifaceted orchestrations with
uncomplicated instrumentation.” The album title
seems like an ironic spin on a famous Depeche
Mode album and although that was not what
Tomas originally intended, he believes the association works quite well: “At first I didn’t recall
that there was a Depeche Mode album called
‘Songs of Faith and Devotion.’ My last Depeche
Mode purchase at the time being was the ‘Black
Celebration’ vinyl back in 1986, so my knowledge was a little obsolete. But after I had been
informed, the title seemed like an even better
idea. It does take the whole title a little further,
to a more ferocious and cynical place, don’t you
think? ‘Songs 4 Hate & Devotion’ speaks about
the absurdities of life. Life as I see it, life as I
dream it. It speaks about the small things and
the big things, the micro cosmos and the macro
cosmos. It speaks of love, life, liberty and lust;
the little organism in relation to the outside
world; the efforts of our personal existence
versus the greater questions of life, death and
the struggle of human kind. And further, how I
behold the controversy between the two, alongside the significance and undivided victory of the
micro cosmos. It plays with concepts, bringing
some together, breaking others apart. It asks
questions that don’t necessarily need answers.
It paint pictures in strange colors and utilizes
old symbols in new contexts. It tells stories of
our own personal heavens and hells.” The album also contains guest performances
from Kim Larsen (Of the Wand and the
Moon), Miho Nakashima (a good friend
of Ordo’s court photographer Holger
Karas) and Simone Salvatori (Spiritual
Front.) “Songs 4 Hate & Devotion” will
be released as a limited first edition
2CD-set containing a bonus disc and
as a 12” quality vinyl disc in a classy
gatefold sleeve sporting an alternative
track list. Tomas is also working with
Italian and Swedish directors on three
accompanying video clips that will be
revealed at the end of October, in December and in January and tour dates
are also in the works... so keep your
ears pricked and your eyes open! “Two

„Pop Musik für Nonkonformisten“ ist wohl der einfachste Weg, die vielschichtigen und faszinierenden Klangwelten der schwedischen Kultband Ordo Rosarius
Equilibrio zu beschreiben. Auf ihrem neuen Album „Songs 4 Hate
& Devotion“ verbinden sie bombastisch-martialische Türme aus
Orchesterklängen, Marschtrommeln und Percussion mit intimen,
zerbrechlichen Momenten, Cold-Wave-, Shoegazing- und MinimalElementen. „Wir bewegen uns niemals in nur eine Richtung, sondern immer in alle zugleich“, erklärt Tomas: „simple Melodien mit
eloquenten, provokanten Texten und vielschichtige Arrangements
mit unkomplizierter Instrumentierung.“ Dass sich der Albumtitel
wie eine ironische Anspielung auf ein bekanntes Depeche Mode Album liest, war wohl eher Zufall, passt Tomas aber gut ins Konzept:
„Mir war zunächst gar nicht bewusst, dass es ein Depeche Mode
Album namens ‚Songs Of Faith & Devotion gibt, denn ‚Black Celebration‘ auf Vinyl war das Letzte, das ich mir gekauft habe. Aber
nachdem man mich darauf aufmerksam gemacht hat, klang der
Titel wie eine noch bessere Idee. Es trägt die Idee noch ein wenig
weiter, in bösere und zynischer Gefilde, findest du nicht? Das Album
dreht sich um die Absurditäten des Lebens, wie ich es sehe und
träume. Es dreht sich um Liebe, Leben, Freiheit und Lust, um den
kleinen Organismus in Relation zu seiner Umwelt und unsere persönliche Existenz versus die großen Fragen von Leben, Tod und den
Überlebenskampf der Menschheit. Das Album spielt mit Konzepten
und bringt manches zusammen, während es anderes zerstört. Es
erzählt Geschichten unseres persönlichen Himmels und unserer
persönlichen Hölle.“ Als Gastperformer auf dem Album konnte Tomas
u.a. Kim Larsen (Of the Wand and the
Moon), Miho Nakashima (eine gute
Freundin des Band-Hoffotografen
Holger Karas) and Simone Salvatori
(Spiritual Front) gewinnen. „Songs
4 Hate & Devotion” erscheint als limitierte Doppel-CD-Erstauflage mit
Bonus Disc, sowie als edle 12“ Vinyl
Edition im Klappcover mit alternativem Tracklisting. Zurzeit arbeitet
Tomas auch noch mit italienischen
und schwedischen Filmemachern an
drei Videoclips, die Ende Oktober,
Dezember und Januar Premiere feiern werden und eine Tour ist auch in
Planung. „Zu zweit ist man nicht allein, zu dritt ist es eine Orgie und vier
Hände befriedigen besser als zwei.
