begeben Sie sich mit mir auf eine Entdeckungstour. Damit Sie an Bord eine
hervorragende Auswahl haben, ver­koste ich zusammen mit einem Expertenteam
jedes Jahr eine Vielzahl von Weinen. Meine Weinreise führt mich dabei in berühmte
Lagen, aber auch in bisher wenig bekannte Regionen. Und diese besonderen
Tropfen stelle ich Ihnen unter der Rubrik „off the beaten track“ vor. Es handelt sich
dabei um Spezialitäten und echte Geheimtipps.
„Off the beaten track” nehmen wir Sie im Juli mit nach Chile, wo ein besonderer
Chardonnay aus dem Casablanca-Tal auf Sie wartet.

instead of following old paths. Off the beaten track is precisely where Lufthansa
are heading with the presentation of their selection of on-board wines. And for
even more variation, our wine list will change monthly, so that you can join me on
a journey of discovery. My team of experts and I taste a great number of wines
every year to ensure that you have an excellent variety on board. This journey of
wine tasting takes me to both famous sites and hitherto less-known regions. And
it is these wines that I present to you under the rubric “off the beaten track”.
These are specialties and true insiders‘ tips.
For “Off the beaten track” in July, we take you to Chile where a special Chardonnay
from Casablanca Valley awaits you.

Der Grand Siècle wird aus Pinot Noir
und einem etwas größeren Anteil
Chardonnay der absoluten Spitzenlagen
der Champagne komponiert. Dabei
werden jedoch nur die Trauben von
jeweils drei besonders gelungenen
Weinjahren verwendet. Das Ergebnis
ist ein ausgewogener und komplexer
Champagner, dessen subtile Aromenvielfalt ein Fest für die Sinne ist.

Sherry „La Guita“
In its prestige cuvée Grand Siècle,
Laurent-Perrier unites two fundamental
concepts of traditional champagne
production: the marriage of various
terroirs and vintages. The Grand Siècle
is composed of Pinot Noir and of a
somewhat larger amount of Chardonnay
from the absolute top terriors in the
Champagne. Only those grapes of
three especially good harvests are
­selected. The result is a balanced and
complex champagne, its variety of
subtle aromas a feast for the senses.

Durch seine Südlage profitiert der Wein­
anbau im Rheingau maßgeblich von
der Sonne. Doch abends wehen von den
Taunushöhen kühle Winde und lassen
die Trauben nur langsam in einem
Spannungsfeld von Wärme und Kühle,
das für die exotischen Fruchtaro­men
und den komplexen Charakter dieses
Rieslings verantwortlich ist, reifen.
Wine-growing in the Rheingau benefits
significantly from the sun thanks to its
south-facing location. Yet in the evening
cool winds blow from the Taunus Mountains and allow the grapes to ripen only
very slowly in a juxtaposition of warmth
and cool­ness, which gives this Riesling’
its exotic fruit aromas and complex
character.

Das von den Marchesi Antinori erworbene Gut hat mit diesem Tropfen erstmals im Jahr 1985 einen Weißwein der
Sonderklasse geschaffen. Die Cuvée
aus Chardonnay mit kleinem Anteil der
lokalen Rebsorte Grechetto präsentiert
sich mit Birnen- und Aprikosearomen,
etwas Ananas, gerösteten Haselnüssen, Brioche und zarter Holzwürze.
Marchesi Antinori acquired this estate
in Umbria and made a top-class white
wine here for the first time in 1985.
The cuvée, consisting of Chardonnay
with a small percentage of the local
grape variety, Grechetto, is most appealing with aromas of pear, apricot
and a touch of pineapple, hints of
roasted hazelnuts, brioche and delicate
oak spiciness.

Off the beaten track
Einst im französischen Tal der Loire
beheimatet, hat der Sauvignon Blanc
über Neuseeland bis hin zu Südafrika
die Weinwelt im Sturm erobert. Seine
aromatische Fülle hat diesen Wein zum
Star unserer Tage gemacht. Ein saftiger
Sauvignon Blanc mit schöner Länge
und reifer Frucht und mit t­ypischen
Rebsortenaromen wie frisches Gras,
Paprika und Spargel.
Originally from the Loire Valley in France,
Sauvignon Blanc has taken the wine
world by storm, from New Zealand all
the way to South Africa. Its ­aromatic
intensity makes this wine a star of our
time. This is a very juicy Sauvignon
Blanc with pleasing length and ripe fruit
reminiscent as well as typical varietal
aromas of fresh grass, pepper and
asparagus.
2013 Casablanca Valley Chardonnay
„Wild Ferment“, Vina Errazuriz, Chile
Im Casablanca Tal ist das Klima verhält­
nismäßig kühl. So reifen die Chardonnay-Trauben langsam und können
viele Aromen bilden. Schonend gekel­
tert, spontan vergoren und zehn Mona­te
im Barrique ausgebaut, kommen dann
Noten von Ananas, Papaya, Zitrusfrucht
und Haselnuss zum Tragen.
The climate is relatively cool in the Casablanca Valley. The Chardonnay grapes
can therefore ripen slowly, developing
their full aroma potential. Flavours of
pineapple, papaya, citrus fruit and hazelnut then come to the fore thanks to
the careful pressing, spontaneous fermentation and maturation in barriques
for ten months.

5ème Grand Cru Classé, Frankreich
Die hervorragende Weingutsmannschaft
von Château Belgrave dürfte mit diesem Grand Cru einen der schönsten
Haut-Médocs kreiert haben. Am Gaumen präsentiert sich die Cuvée saftig
und aromenreich mit einer dezenten
Würze und seidigen Tanninen. Durch
eine gut ausbalancierte Länge überzeugt er auf der ganzen Linie.
The excellent winery team from Château Belgrave have probably created
one of the greatest Haut-Médocs with
this Grand Cru. On the palate this cuvée
presents itself both lush and aromatic,
with a delicate spiciness and silky tannins. Topped off with a well-balanced
length, it impresses in every respect.
2009 Farnito, Cabernet Sauvignon,
Toscana Rosso IGT, Carpineto, Italien
Carpineto erzeugt einige der namhaf­
testen toskanischen Weine. Im Glas
verströmt der Farnito ein herrlich inten­
sives und vielschichtiges Bukett. Das
vollmundige und opulente Geschmacks­
erlebnis wird bestimmt von balsami­
schen, beerenfruchtigen und leicht

Carpineto produces one of the most
distinguished Tuscan wines. In the glass,
the Farnito exudes a deliciously rich
and complex bouquet. The fullbodied
and opulent flavour experience is
characterised by balsamic, berries

Louis Felipe Edwards, Chile
The secret of this outstanding cuvée are
the five different grape varieties planted
at an altitude of 900 meters where the
climate is influenced by the Pacific and
the Andes. Luis Felipe Edwards says
“I always had a dream of producing a
wine from the hillsides around our estate”.
The cool climate gives very aromatic
grapes, as this wine with its intense
bouquet of cassis shows.
2009 Sonoma Valley Cabernet-Sauvignon, Dry Creek Vineyard, USA
Inspiriert von der Loire, studierte Dave
S. Stare an der Universität von Davis
und entdeckte das ideale Stück Land,
auf dem er 1972 das erste Weingut
nach der Prohibition im Dry Creek V
­ alley
eröffnete. Sein Cabernet Sauvignon ist
eine ausgezeichnete Visitenkarte seines
Werks mit balsamischer Fülle, Röst­
aromen und reifer Beerenfrucht.

Stare started his studies at the University
of Davis and discovered the ideal piece
of land on which he opened the first
wine estate in Dry Creek Valley post
prohibition in 1972. With its rich weight,
toasty aromas and ripe berry fruit his
Cabernet Sauvignon is a stunning
representation of his work.

Fünf Rebsorten, angebaut in 900 Höhen­
metern und klimatisch beeinflusst vom
Pazifik sowie den Anden, sind das Geheimnis dieser großartigen Cuvée. „Ich
hatte immer die Vision, Wein an den
Hängen rund um unser Weingut zu
pflanzen“ meint Luis Felipe Edwards.
Das kühle Klima lässt aromatische Trauben wachsen, wie dieser Tropfen mit
seinem intensiven Cassisduft beweist.
