Campus Virchow Klinik Cardiology Science Lunch Berlin a weekly exchange of insights and ideas in cardiovascular medicine Baroreceptor Stimulation – Current Role and Future Prospective in Cardiovascular Diseases Prof. Rolf Wachter Clinic for Cardiology and Pneumology University Medicine Göttingen, Germany Nearly 50 years ago, Eugene Braunwald and his wife Nina Starr described baroreceptor stimulation as a therapy for severe angina in the New England Journal of Medicine. Due to new treatment modalities (e. g. coronary stenting, bypass surgery), this therapy was long time forgotten, but has evolved in recent years for treatment of hypertension and, more recently, heart failure. Prof. Wachter will give an overview on the recent evidence from randomised controlled trials, will share own research data and discuss potential future therapeutic targets in cardiovascular diseases.
