Begründung und Zielsetzung des Themas (ggf. Bezug zum Fachprofil):
Gender roles concern all of us personally. Everybody experiences gender roles and has to come to terms
with role expectations in some form or other. Along with various socializing agents such as parents,
teachers and peers, media of any kind shape, influence and reinforce consciously or often rather unconsciously our idea of “gender concepts”.
In the course of our investigation we will first focus on gender role formation in childhood and adolescence and changing roles of women and men. Further on we will analyze gender concepts presented in
different kind of media and investigate their influence on our idea of what it is like to be “male” or “female”.
The seminar will refer to some major aspects of the current “curriculum”. (z.B. Die Rolle des Individuums
in der Gesellschaft, Selbstbild und Fremdbild, Bedeutung und Einfluss der Medien, Kunst und Gesellschaft) and will supply you with a high range of useful vocabulary and background knowledge.
