Curriculum Vitae of Dr. Claus Nordbruch
The qualifications and his bibliography
I was born on 29 August 1961 in Germany. Between 1982 and 1986 I served as infantryman (last
rank: lieutenant) in the German Bundeswehr. Since 1986 I live in South Africa (postal address:
Posbus 71380, Die Wilgers 0041). I am currently divorcing from my wife. I am a German citizen
(passport number 3139188797).
Between 1987 and 1991 I had studied History, Criminology, German Philology and Biology at
the University of Pretoria. In 1995, for my historical-philosophical doctoral thesis Über die
Pflicht (About duty), I was promoted to PhD at the University of South Africa (Pretoria).
Due to my doctoral thesis the Ostdeutsche Kulturrat (East German Cultural Council), which is
subsidized by the Federal German Government, awarded me a scientific prize at the University
of Bonn (Germany) in 1998.
Within the past eight years I have published 14 books, mainly based on historical, philosophical
and humane subjects. Additionally, I have published more than 60 articles and essays in various
media around the world, among them the South African daily The Citizen and the Swiss daily
Neue Zürcher Zeitung as well as a couple of scholastic magazines like Deutsche
Militärzeitschrift, Zeitschrift für Literaturwissenschaft und Linguistik, Acta Germanica and
Deutsche Geschichte.
According to most of the book reviews, my books on suppression of freedom of speech in
Germany, Sind Gedanken noch frei? Zensur in Deutschland (Are Thoughts still free? Censorship
in Germany) and Der Verfassungsschutz (Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution)
are to be considered as standard works.
I frequently receive several invitations, mainly from cultural-political organizations, to deliver
lectures and speeches on the issue of intellectual freedom in Germany.
