Copyright www.park-koerner.de The tennis match It's Saturday morning. Mrs Spencer comes into her daugher Sheia's room and says, "Happy birthday, Sheila. Look what I have got for you here!" "Oh Mum, three tickets for the big tennis match at Wimbledon today! Hurrah! Thank you, Mum, thank you. But who are the other two tickets for?" "Well, one is for your sister Wendy, and the other is for me because you can't go to Wimbledon alone. Somebody must go with you because there are so many people at big matches like this one." Sheila is very happy, because she and Wendy Spencer are tennis fans. They like the English tennis players, but their favourite player is Steffi Graf. This weekend, Steffi is playing against Gabriela Sabatini at Wimbledon. They are going by underground because the streets are always full on Saturdays. Mrs Spencer has got the tickets because she thinks her daughters aren't careful enough. The trains are very crowded this morning because lots of people want to go shopping; and lots of people are on their way to Wimbledon, too, of course. They must change trains at Victoria Station. There are even more people here. But they needn't hurry because it's still very early. The match starts in three hours. Suddenly a little old lady walks up to Mrs Spencer and says, "Oh, can you help me please? I'm in London for the first time and I don't know where I must go, which train I must take to Shepherd's Bush _ I don't know what to do." That's five stations from here. You must get off the train and take the Central Line westbound. The second station is Shepherd's Bush." At this moment, the Spencers' train pulls into the station and stops. The two girls are very excited now and they think their mother is still behind them, so they get into the train. But Mrs Spencer is still talking to the little old lady. "Thank you very much for your help," she says. "But I'm very tired. Can you help me with these big suitcases? They're very heavy." "Sorry, I must leave and look for my daughters now," Mrs Spencer says to the lady. "I've got their tickets in my pocket. Bye!" "Oh dear, look, a ticket inspector. I'm sure he wants to see our tickets." "You're right, young lady. I hope you have got your tickets." "Oh sir, you see, our mother has got them; we want to go to Wimbledon, but we lost her on the platform at Victoria Station." "Well, ladies, that isn't a good story. We must inform the police, I'm afraid." Oh please, don't. Our mother HAS got the tickets. Why not get out at the next station and wait for her there? "No, that isn't a good idea," says the ticket inspector. "Your mother doesn't know that we are there, and so she will miss us-if you tell me the truth! Let's go to Wimbledon; there's a big police station there, and if your mother doesn't come we can go there." The ticket inspector, Sheila and Wendy are waiting on the platform at Wimbledon.
