A Life Saving Program
Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) involves placing an Automated
External Defibrillator (AED) where people might need them, so that a
casualty of Sudden Cardiac Arrest does not have to wait for Paramedics
to arrive. If AEDs are placed where someone might have a Sudden
Cardiac Arrest, and you know that someone nearby is trained to use the
AED, the survival rates from Sudden Cardiac Arrest improve
enormously.
The City of Cornwall, the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and
Glengarry started the initiative for the PAD Program in 2004 w ith 38
AED distributed in the community.
Since this time, additional AEDs have been placed in the community
with the support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, the
Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Frank Cowen Foundation. A total of
68 AEDs have been donated to the community by these contributors in
2008 and 2009 and another 83 AEDs in 2012.
AEDs and CPR Save Lives
The use of an AED combined with CPR can increase survival during
Sudden Cardiac Arrest by 30 -70% when used within 5 minutes of
collapse.

Un programme qui sauve la vie
L’accès public à la défibrillation (APD) inclus le placement d’un
Défibrillateur externe automatique (DEA) ou les gens pourront accéder
en tout temps. Ceci permettra l’utilisation immédiate dans le cas d’un
arrêt cardiaque soudain. La victime n’aura pas à attendre l’arrivée de
l’ambulance. Si les DEAs sont placées d’une façon stratégique et
qu’une personne qualifié pour l’utiliser est présent, le taux de survie
augmentera énormément.
La ville de Cornwall, et les Comtés Unis de Stormont, Dundas et
Glengarry ont commencé l’initiative pour le programme APD en 2004
avec une distribution de 38 DEA dans la communauté.
Depuis l’installation des DEAs additionnels dans la communauté, et
avec le support de La Fondation Heart and Stroke de l’Ontario, La
Fondation Trillium de l’Ontario ainsi que la Fondation Frank Cowen, un
total de 68 DEAs a été distribué dans la communauté en 2008 et 2009
grâce aux contributions des fondations. Il y a eu également un autre 83
DEAs ajoutés en 2012.
DEAs et RCR sauvent les vies
L’utilisation d’un DEA combiné avec le RCR augmente le taux de survie
lors d’un arrêt cardiaque soudain par 30 -70% lorsque utilisé dans les 5
premières minutes d’un effondrement.
