As mentioned previously, real estate development revenues declined by ¤20 million from the prior-year period. Real estate revenues included in the prior year the sale of a property in Val d’Europe which had been subject to a long term ground lease. Moreover, only one transaction has occurred during the first semester compared to four transactions in the prior year. n April 28, we released results for the first half of fiscal year 2009. We achieved record attendance in our Parks at 7.1 million visits and a solid hotel occupancy rate at 85.8%. However, Group revenues were impacted by both the Easter holiday shift to the second semester as well as the non-recurrence of a large real estate transaction in the prior-year period. The two combined contribute to more than half of the 7% revenue decline for the semester. Costs and expenses declined by ¤2.7 million, mainly reflecting lower real estate costs partially offset by labor inflation and an increase in marketing & sales expenses driven by the preparation of the launch of Mickey’s Magical Party in April. Ignace Lahoud, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer gives an overview of the 2009 First Half results. Revenues O The results of the first semester reflect the current challenging economic context. We remain committed to executing our strategy which includes the development of compelling new offers and entertainment for our guests and investment in new, interactive attractions inspired by Disney characters and stories. We are confident that the strategies we have put in place will position us well for continued success at the end of this difficult economic context. Primarily driven by the drop in revenues, Operating Margin before depreciation and amortization decreased ¤42.3 million to ¤38.8 million and the net loss was ¤85.4 million. Breakdown by activity In response to the current economic context, we have adapted our promotional offers to target markets that have been more resilient than others. This flexibility has been effective; attendance in our Theme Parks has increased by 111,000 visits. However, there has been a change in the mix of our attendance by country of origin that led to a decrease in the hotel occupancy rate and in the average spending per guest. Theme Parks: 55.4% Real estate development: 0.9% Hotels & Disney® Village: 39.3% Other: 4.4% Visitors from the United Kingdom and Spain declined but were offset by an increase in guests coming from France, Belgium and the Netherlands as our Resort represents for these guests a shortbreak destination. KEY FINANCIAL FIRST HALF 2009 (¤ in millions) Revenues Hotels and Disney Village revenues decreased 7% compared to the prior-year period, mainly reflecting a decrease in the average spending per room and in the hotel occupancy rate that, although lower, remains strong at 85.8%. 04 2008 558.8 602.7 Costs and expenses (598.7) (601.4) (Negative) / Positive operating margin (39.9) 1.3 EBITDA 1 EBITDA as a percentage of revenues Net loss Theme Parks revenues declined by 2% for the first half to reach ¤310 million. This decrease reflects an increase in promotional offers put in place to stimulate demand and a subsequent change in the breakdown of our attendance by country of origin. HIGHLIGHTS 38.8 81.1 6.9% 13.4% (85.4) (43.4) Attributable to equity holders of the parent (71.9) (37.5) Attributable to minority interests (13.5) (5.9) 1 (51.3) (22.6) Cash and cash equivalents, end of period Cash and cash equivalents, end of period 280.0 280.0 306.5 306.5 Free cash flow used 1 EBITDA corresponds to earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. Free cash flow is cash generated by operating activities less cash used in investing activities. EBITDA and free cash flow are not measures of financial performance defined under IFRS, and should not be viewed as substitutes for operating margin, net profit / (loss) or operating cash flows in evaluating the Group's financial results. However, management believes that EBITDA and free cash flow are useful tools for evaluating the Group's performance. 05 I 2 009 Se a son To celebrate Mickey's birthday, Disneyland® Paris is organizing a giant party to show off all that’s new at the Resort. G nie ’s P O * In the car with the Disney stars. ’C Disney’s Stars’n ars * T in 07 I 2 009 Se ason To launch Mickey’s Magical Party, Disneyland® Paris has developed an exceptional communication campaign all over Europe to invite our guests to come celebrate Mickey’s birthday. By combining the latest trends in communication and using more traditional channels as well, this campaign is built around two major ideas: inviting our guests to the party and allowing them to become the heroes of the day. Here is some insight to this remarkable, original and innovative campaign: The Balloon, a symbol of celebrations etallic and mounted with two big ears in a veiled reference to Mickey, the Balloon is the key element of the communication campaign. Emblem of birthday parties, it transports all Europeans to the heart of the Resort and invites them to participate in the biggest party of the year. Presented in various colours, it is, among others, the star of the ad campaign on television since March 2nd. It is also prominent in the metro and bus stand posters as well as in magazine spreads. M The “Mickey Star” Academy n unprecedented programme led by Mickey and Nikos Aliagas (a French TV presenter), “Mickey Star” has invited children between the ages of 5 and 10 to participate in a casting by connecting to the website www.castingmickeystar.com and uploading videos of their choreography. The jury, that included Nikos, Mickey, Donald and Stitch, selected four finalists that have had the opportunity to dance on Saturday, March 28th on the stage at Central Plaza in the Disneyland Park during the launch of Mickey’s Magical Party and the honour to be in an ad on TF1 (the first French channel). A 08 Toonification the new trend of the year he website www.mickeymagicalyear.com plunges you into Mickey’s Magical Party and offers you an interactive and entertaining adventure. The star of this website, “Toonification” allows you to create your own character by choosing, in just a few clicks, the shape of your face, the colour of your eyes and hair, and of course an outfit and accessories. Once your “Toon” has been recorded, you can travel to the heart of the Mickey’s Magical Party universe and discover the most exciting moments of this great celebration. T A celebration that is both colourful and tasty othing is too good for Mickey! All your senses are invited to take part in the celebration, even your taste buds are lead into temptation. Ladurée has created exclusively for this year of celebration: the first Mickey Macaroon. True coloured delights in which the crusty outside melts into the soft inside, the famous little round cakes from the renowned Ladurée brand are part of the party. The emblematic macaroon, an alliance of sweet and refined tastes, will make you melt. The "designer name" in cuisine will be an exclusive guest until the month of June in the restaurants of Disneyland Paris: Walt's - an American Restaurant (Disneyland Park) and the California Grill (Disneyland Hotel). N 09 Disneyland ® Re sort Paris - Val d’Europe I Mickey’s ears will be auctioned for the benefit of Rêves During Mickey’s Magical Party, over fifteen wellknown names from the world of sports, music, design and cinema… help Disneyland Resort Paris to re-create the ears of the most famous mouse in the world. hese celebrities poured their hearts out to create and personalize Mickey’s ears for the benefit of the association Rêves (Dreams). Sponsored by Vanessa Paradis (a French singer) T and Patrick Chêne (a French TV presenter), the charity association, a long-term partner of the Disney Wish Programme of Disneyland Resort Paris, has, for over 15 years, made possible the dreams of children with life threatening illnesses. They will be on display from June 20th to 22nd at the Espace Drouot Montaigne in Paris, and will then be auctioned to the benefit of Rêves on June 22nd. For further information on the association and the auction, connect to www.reves.fr or contact +33 (0)4 74 08 87 70 From David Guetta’s disco ears to those of rugby’s Sébastien Chabal, and including Vanessa Paradis’ spiral-shaped ones, or even the ones made of flowers by Jeff Leatham (flower designer of a major Paris hotel), each of these unique creations has been made in the most trendy and unusual manner possible. and assisted every day by ADOMA (the operator in charge of managing the Hameau) to help them find employment opportunities. nnounced in September 2008, the “Hameau de l’espoir” of Val d’Europe, built in the city of Serris, was officially inaugurated on March 16th by Christine Boutin, French Minister of Housing. Since then, some forty people in socially challenging situations are housed in 25 chalets Diversity, source of creativity Disneyland Resort Paris has reaffirmed its commitment to diversity on March 3rd, by signing the Diversity Agreement and by becoming a member of the sponsorship program, Nos Quartiers ont des Talents (There's Talent in our Neighborhoods). aunched at the end of 2004, the Diversity Agreement, commits all signatory companies to fight employment discrimination in support of diversity. The signing of this agreement is a reaffirmation of the values in place since the opening of our doors in 1992, encouraging cultural, ethnic, and social diversity in all of our teams. It is one more compliment to a host of actions the company has put in place, including most recently, the Diversity Caravan, which helps cast members express their perception and experiences with diversity in the work place. More than just a concept, diversity and multiculturalism bring valued new perspectives and ideas to the organization. L The “Hameau de l’espoir” has opened its doors A I Company news The Euro Disney S.C.A. group reaffirms its commitment to offering the residents of the hameau the opportunity to benefit from the measures of professional support already existing at Disneyland Resort Paris, in partnership with the Seine-etMarne General Council and the association Initiatives 77. Through these measures, 70 integration training courses and 10 direct jobs were already offered in 2008 to those in need. Another initiative in terms of diversity and employment is our commitment to the program, Nos Quartiers ont des Talents. It entails helping young graduates, living in under privileged neighborhoods, through the job search process as a sponsoring mentor and coach. The entire Steering Committee of the Euro Disney S.C.A. group is taking part by becoming sponsoring mentors to a group of the 2009 class of Nos Quartiers ont des Talents. Throughout 2009, the participants will be offered a specific program to discover the 500 trades here at Euro Disney in addition to the core program offered. For further information on the Human Resources here at Disneyland Resort Paris, just click into the recently re-designed website dedicated to our Casting Department: http://disneylandparis-casting.com Val d’Europe’s economic development continues A survey carried out by KPMG in September 2008 highlights that Val d’Europe has considerable assets in terms of infrastructure as well as a high quality of life in an urban setting, combined with some of the lowest costs for setting up companies in the Ile-de-France region: for example, half that of La Défense (the Paris business district) and almost a third the cost of Paris' 8th district. Disneyland Resort Paris, community conscious destination Disneyland Resort Paris publishes its first community report. o support our surrounding communities, to create a work environment that enhances, supports and encourages the development of talents, to optimize the use of electricity, to reduce and recycle waste, to promote biodiversity… Disneyland Resort Paris makes T 10 these commitments daily in its procedures as a responsible company and good corporate citizen. Take a look at the initiatives developed by the Group as a corporate citizen in the very first community report published in March and available on line at http://corporate.disneylandparis.com Section: Corporate Responsibility. hroughout 2008, Val d’Europe continued to grow. Indeed, the major urban and economic hub of the Eastern part of the Ile-de-France region has now more than 1,500 companies arriving at an average rate of over five new ones per week*. T Val d'Europe has 23,000 residents and 21,000 jobs, more than a third of which are created outside the tourism industry. Val d'Europe also has an employment ratio of 2 jobs per working person, which is exceptional in the Parisian region. Two recent examples have confirmed this appeal: the arrival in midDecember 2008 in the downtown area of a new site of a major French operator for telephone commercial services and in January 2009 the creation of an annex of the ESMA Aviation Academy (one of the French air force schools) for training and development. * Source: SAN of Val d’Europe 11 12 Informations Club Actionnaires I Nouveau !
