Bilan en date du 16 mai 2007: • Recrutement autorisé pour 5 postes de personnel de soutien • Un poste de personnel de soutien et un poste de professeur régulier éliminés • Recrutement autorisé pour 2 postes de professeurs en génie biomédical à partir de postes existants • Nouveau poste de soutien technique en génie biomédical (budget additionnel) Rapport annuel 2006 - 2007 / 2006 - 2007 Annual Report Activités étudiantes Student Activities • • • • • • Ms. Emily Pellejà and Mr. Dan Dicaire finished in 2nd place at both the Ontario and Canadian Engineering Competitions in the Engineering Communication category. Two of the five teams of mechanical engineering students who participated in the annual Engineering Wood Competition took home prizes: The best presentation award and a 3rd place in design. The annual ESS’ Charity Ball raised more than $2,500 in support of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. For the fifth year in a row, the students of the Faculty have won the snow castle competition organized during the University’s Winter Challenge Week. Mr. Danny Collier, a 2nd-year software engineering student, was crowned Canadian Airplane King at the National Red Bull Paper Wings Championship in Toronto by winning in the best acrobatic flight category. A Ph.D. candidate in Electrical Engineering (Discover Laboratory), Mr. Naim El-Far won the Russ Jackson Award, one of Canadian Interuniversity Sport’s highest football honours. Rapport annuel 2006 - 2007 / 2006 - 2007 Annual Report • • • A Ph.D. student in SITE (Discover Laboratory), Mr. Saied Nourian won the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI) “Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award”. SITE students, Saleh Taebi, Ali Akbari, Federico Carvajal, Kathryn Reilander, and Hadi Golkarih won the cash prize for the best overall project at the 2007 Professional Engineering Ontario student paper contest, for their project on the design and implementation of the control system for “stance Control Orthortic Knee Joint” project done in collaboration with the Ottawa Civic Hospital. On May 6th, SITE hosted the 5th Annual IEEE Ottawa Robot Competition. Prix d’excellence des diplômés: Remis à Messieurs Mac Harb et Tom Goguen en 2006. Monsieur Yves Tremblay est le récipiendaire pour l’année 2007. Don anonyme d’un million de dollars pour la création du Fonds de dotation en entrepreneuriat et en innovation de la Faculté. Alumni and local government and industry representatives attended the Faculty’s first annual Graduate Education and Research Day. UofO – OCRI Research Day held at the Faculty. Productive introductory R&D meetings with private companies and government agencies. One-year project funded by the College University Consortium Council to develop student transfer agreements between Algonquin College & La Cité Collégiale and Carleton University & the University of Ottawa. The Faculty of Engineering organized the International Workshop on Hazard Mitigation and Disaster Management on June 22-23, 2006.
