Avant, à la fin du XIXe siècle,
c’était une grande banque avant
de devenir le premier conservatoire de musique de la ville en
1983. Puis, tombé sous le charme
de l’architecture originelle de
Daniel Knuttel, le mélomane
et homme d’affaires Georgi
Akirov s’est porté acquéreur du
bâtiment, l’a métamorphosé en
un hôtel 5 étoiles au grand luxe
non ostentatoire. Idéalement
situé en plein Museumplein, le
quartier des musées parallèle à
celui de la mode et du design, le
Conservatorium revendique un
fort principe culturel. Pour en
repenser et revitaliser l’architecture intérieure sans compromettre son âme, Georgi Akirov
a demandé à Piero Lissoni d’en
orchestrer la mise en scène.
Inutile donc de préciser qu’ici,
on retrouve ces lignes pures,
bien nettes et presqu’austères,
ce répertoire de gris et de taupe
en camaïeux subtils, ce chic
contemporain signé Lissoni. Le
mobilier, cutom designed ou
édité par les plus prestigieuses
maisons (Living Divani, Cassina,
Vitra) cohabite avec de somptueux tapis d’Orient vintage.
« La simplicité sophistiquée de
l’hôtel a été conçue avec l’espoir d’y créer une atmosphère
personnelle et une ambiance où
clients et visiteurs se sentent naturellement comme à la maison.
L’équilibre entre un beau design
et une hospitalité chaleureuse
est la clef de tous mes projets »,
affirme Piero Lissoni. Et de
développer : « C’est presque
comme le château de Dracula.
In the late nineteenth century it
was a large bank, before becoming the first music conservatory of the town in 1983. Then,
having fallen in love with Daniel
Knuttel’s original architecture,
music lover and businessman
Georgi Akirov purchased the
building and turned it into a 5
star luxury yet unpretentious
hotel. Ideally located in the Museumplein, the museum district
parallel to that of fashion and
design, the Conservatory boasts
a strong cultural principle. To
rethink and revitalize its interior
without compromising its soul,
Georgi Akirov asked Piero Lissoni to orchestrate staging.
Needless to say, here we find
the sleek, neat and almost
forbidding lines, the pallet of
gray and taupe colours in subtle
shades and the contemporary
chic that can only be Lissoni.
The furniture, which is custom
designed or made by the most
prestigious designers (Living
Divani, Cassina, Vitra) coexists
with sumptuous vintage oriental
carpets. ‘The sophisticated simplicity of the hotel was designed
in the hope of creating a personal atmosphere and ambience
whereby guests and visitors
alike instantly feel naturally at
home. This balance of beautiful
design and hospitable warmth
is key to all of my projects.’
says Piero Lissoni. He adds: ’It’s
almost like Dracula’s castle.

L’atmosphère intérieure est
plutôt sombre et j’ai essayé de
respecter cette obscurité. Toutefois, j’ai produit un intérieur
complètement moderne, sans
compromis aucun. » Avec ses
immenses verrières, le lobby
peut se permettre ces touches
foncées sans aucune contrainte.
A la Brasserie & Lounge ouverte
du vaste atrium, quelques fauteuils vert pomme tranchent
sur le cuir brun ambiant. Autre
lieu de délices, le The Tunes
Restaurant & Bar by Schilo avec
nappes blanches propose une
carte exclusivement locavore
aux produits les plus frais du
marché, selon le souhait du
célèbre chef exécutif Schilo
Van Coevorden. Côté chambres
et suites (129), leurs surfaces
s’échelonnent de 30 m2 pour la
standard à 170 m2 pour le penthouse avec home cinéma et le
nec plus ultra en matière d’équipements et de services pointus.

The atmosphere inside is quite
dark and I tried to respect this
darkness. However I made the
interior completely modern,
without any level of compromise.’ With its huge windows,
the lobby can easily afford
some dark touches. In the open
Brasserie & Lounge of the vast
atrium, some pea green chairs
stand out in sharp contrast to
the ambient brown leather. Another delightful place, The Tunes
Restaurant & Bar by Shiloh
with white tablecloths offers
an exclusively locavore menu
with the freshest products from
the market, as requested by the
famous Chief Executive Shiloh
Van Coevorden. Concerning
rooms and suites (129), their
surfaces range from 30 m2 for
standard rooms to 170 m2 for
the penthouse complete with
home cinema and state-of-theart equipment and services.

Le sublime Akasha Holistic
Wellbeing Retreat (du nom
sanscrit de l’Espace), complète
le décor fluide de Lissoni qui y
a inclus les principes du Feng
Shui et la théorie des couleurs.
Il fonctionne sur la dynamique
des éléments : l’Eau régit la
piscine, le spa et sa Watsu Pool ;
yoga, tai-chi et méditation se
pratiquent en mode Air ; la
gym a besoin du Feu et la Terre
se consomme en menus bios.
C’est aussi le premier spa néerlandais à proposer l’utilisation
des pierres précieuses dans les
traitements de gemmothérapie.
L’hôtel a adopté un programme
durable certifié Green Globe
(énergie thermique, etc…).
D’ailleurs, le Conservatorium,
en plus de faire partie du catalogue visionnaire de Design
Hotels, vient de rejoindre le tout
nouveau, prestigieux et exclusif
groupe The Set. C’est dire !

Wellbeing Retreat (the Sanskrit
name for space) complements
Lissoni’s fluid decor with added
Feng Shui principles and colour
theory. This theory is based on
element dynamics: water regulates the pool, spa and its Watsu
Pool; yoga, tai chi and meditation are practiced in air mode,
the gym needs Fire, and Earth
is consumed in organic menus.
It is also the first Dutch spa to
offer the use of gemstones for
gemmotherapy treatments. The
hotel is proud of its Sustainable
Green Globe certified program
(thermal energy, etc.). Moreover, in addition to being part
of the Design Hotels visionary
catalog, the Conservatorium
has recently joined the all-new,
prestigious and exclusive group:
