Xperia™ U – a powerful Sony smartphone in a stylish and compact design
Xperia U is a smartphone created to entertain and designed to be personalised both inside and out.
Part of the Xperia NXT series, Xperia U has many hallmarks that you would expect in a Sony
smartphone such as the stylish transparent element. Adding to its sense of excitement, you have the
opportunity to choose the colour of the base with interchangeable coloured caps.

How to use and enjoy your Xperia U
A step by step guide
Watch - Personalize your phone inside and out
With Xperia U, consumers can choose from different coloured themes on both the inside and outside of the
phone.
Xperia U comes with a choice of two caps so before you turn it on you can change cap at the base of
the handset to the colour you prefer.
The transparent element at the base of the handset illuminates depending on the colour theme you have
chosen.
Click on the gallery application and open your photos. The illumination colour will change to reflect the
colours in the picture you are viewing.
Start the ‘Music player’ application and scroll through your albums. You will see how illumination is
changing depending on the colours used in the album art.
If you do not have album art, you can download it for free. Go to My music tab, press the settings key
and choose to ‘download music info’.

Create – Take pictures in seconds and share them instantly across devices
With the power of Sony, Xperia U enables you to take photos with fast capture using the 5MP camera in just over
a second from sleep mode.
From sleep mode, press and hold the camera button and the camera will automatically focus and take a
photo.
The fast capture function can be managed in the camera application. Click on the settings key to reveal
the ‘Quick Launch’ option then select whether to launch and capture, just launch or switch it off entirely.
To view the image, unlock the phone and the photo will appear on the screen. Every picture taken can
be found in the Gallery.
You can share your photos with family and friends on a TV if it is connected to the same wireless
network as your phone. To do this, open the photo you would like to share and press the ‘Play on
device’ button in the upper right hand corner and select your TV.
The image will then appear on the TV screen. You can scroll through your images with your smartphone
and all the images will show on the TV.
Listen – Take control of your music
Xperia U boasts xLoud and 3D surround sound audio technology to give crisp and loud sound. It is also DLNA
enabled to allow you to share music wirelessly.
Click on the ‘Music player’ application and choose a song you would like to listen to. While the song is
playing, press the settings key to access the ‘Equaliser’ and adjust five different frequency bands.
Click on the ‘More’ button in the Equaliser setting to reveal additional options including ‘Headphone
surround’ for best sound quality using headphones and ‘xLoud’ for optimal playback using the speakers.
To find more information about what you are listening to, click on the ‘Infinite button’ in the right hand
corner of a track as it plays.
If you want to easily access your favourite albums you can create shortcuts so they appear on the
home page of the Music player.
Go to My music tab and open the Albums menu. Press and hold on the album you would like to quickly
access. Select ‘Add as Shortcut’. You can also create shortcuts to your favourite playlists in the same
way.
To re-arrange the order of icons in ‘My music’ tab, press and hold on the icons and move them to any
position you want.
