Début des travaux : printemps 2014 Bourse : $ 20,000/an pour 3 ans Supervision : Christian Messier (UQO-ISFORT) David Rivest (UQO-ISFORT) Alain Paquette (UQAM) Veuillez envoyer une lettre de motivation, un CV et le nom et les coordonnées de trois références à Christian Messier à l’adresse suivante : [email protected] Ph.D. scholarship in forest ecology: Impacts of exotic tree plantations on biodiversity Description : The project aims to analyse the specific and functional diversity in communities of different taxonomic groups (soil microbes and microarthropods, lichens, bryophytes, vascular plants) in various plantations (monospecifics and mixed) with native and exotic tree species and in naturally regenerated stands. Also, the project will attempt to show linkages between biodiversity data and some indices of vegetation complexity and structural diversity. The project develops from a theoretical framework as well as from applied forest ecology and is part of the ambitious TRIAD project. The candidate will acquire a strong expertise in experimental design, sophisticated laboratory analyses and numerical ecology. The project includes field work in the Haute-Mauricie region, with the collaboration of forest specialists from Resolute Forest Products, which is our industrial partner. The candidate will be encouraged to present results at national or international meetings, and will work in the stimulating environment provided by the Institute of Temperate Forest Sciences (ISFORT) and Center for Forest Research (CFR). The candidate would have funding to do short internships in other laboratories to further her/his training. Qualifications: The candidate should have completed a M.Sc. degree in biology or related areas. She/He should be able to perform work in forest and have ability to work independently and as part of a research team. Project start date: printemps 2014 Scholarship: $ 20,000/year for 3 years Supervision: Christian Messier (UQO-ISFORT) David Rivest (UQO-ISFORT) Alain Paquette (UQAM) Please send a letter of motivation, a CV and the name and contacts of three references at the following address: [email protected]
