The project is aimed to:
promote an innovative approach on urban sustainable management and requalification which considers the city
as a grid of urban cells on which to apply the principles of upgrading energy and environment, rethinking the
integrated design of building systems and pursuing the goals of energy efficiencies and environmental
sustainability. The methodological approach allows to evaluate and improve the energy flows from nature to city,
from city to itself and from city to nature. In detail the model seeks to provide a standard procedure to evaluate
the performance and optimization of the urban cells energy balance through innovation technology on the use of
renewable resources. In order to verify the validation and effectiveness of the innovative methodology the urban

cells model will be tested in some different pilot areas to evaluate the concrete replicability in different climatic,
environmental and anthrophic contexts.
The expected results are:
• to assist the management of energy networks finalized to the optimization of the energy ratio between load and
generation in cities;
•to diffuse tools and guide lines of best practices to local authorities, research centers and universities, private
organizations and local communities for the sustainable management of urban areas with the aim of increasing
energy efficiency and use of renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving outdoor air
quality, improving urban transport, improving waste management and increasing biodiversity and green space;
•to make aware in the decision markers and in the population that the production from renewable energies can
contribute to the economic increase of the area in uniform and distributed way;
•to strengthen the role of the local communities in the choices of the energetic and environmental politics
intervening in the definition of procedures, laws and strategies in the field of the renewable energy
