MOTHER TERESA
Born Agnese Bojaxhiu, Albanian Mother Teresa (1910-97) worked as a Roman Catholic missionary from an
early age, but yearned to serve her god through action rather than contemplation. She was sent to India, became a teacher, then a nun, and after considerable struggle, founded a new order, The Missionaries of Charity,
with almost no resources. In the most poverty-stricken city in India, Calcutta, she and her few sisters began
helping the poor, sick, orphaned and dying from the streets. Their work and numbers expanded and became
more famous in the 1970’s. Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. By the time of her
death, her order had 4,000 sisters operating 610 missions in 123 countries. Despite some criticisms about her
toward the end of her life, this diminutive person is widely remembered for her great determination and courage by helping the helpless.

THE PRODIGAL SON
Sing a song and read along activity
The Parable of The Prodigal Son (or the Parable of the Lost Son) is the tale of a wayward youth reunited with his father and family after having squandered all his inheritance through wasteful living. Learn of God’s overwhelming love for those who humbly repent of their foolish ways with this endearing Bible story! The example of the
father’s joy for the return of his repentant young son is contrast against the trust and
rewards kept for those who do not waste that which God entrusts to them.

CELEBRATING THE CHURCH YEAR WITH CHILDREN: LENT
Catholics perform many special actions in Lent. We put ashes on our heads. We fast. We
pray the Stations of the Cross. We dedicate ourselves to repentance and turning to New Life.
But what do all these actions mean in the life of a child? This video conveys the meaning of
Lent in a manner children aged 8-12 will appreciate. Celebrating the Church Year for Children is a series of innovative video programs which attempt to convey the power and beauty
of church seasons and events. Each fifteen-minute program contains a story in the life of a
child today - a story which illustrates the theme of the particular liturgical season. Each
video then moves from experience to liturgy as the liturgical and devotional practices of the
season are illustrated and explained. As an added bonus, Father Rathschmidt and Gaynell
Cronin, acclaimed religious educators, offer original prayer services for home and church.

humble and gentle Jesus. Children will come to understand the importance of Jesus' sacrifice and the power of

contemporary life that parallel the passion experience of
Jesus. The video presentation can be used: 1) to familiarize children with the events of Jesus' passion, death, and
resurrection, 2) to introduce them to the devotion of the
Stations of the Cross, and 3) to suggest numerous ways in
