young boy
La Boum : girl turns 16 and has a Boum ! (party)
Diabolo Menthe (Peppermint Soda) : teenage friendship story
Ma vie en rose : My life in Pink : Don’t confuse this with the one below ; young boy likes to
dress as a girl ; amazing story about family and society
La vie en rose : Edith Piaf’s life ; Marion Cotillard has the star role and wins an Oscar for it !
Jean de Florette : set in Provence ; drama about evil and greed !

Ponette : young girl (6 years old) has to come to terms with the death of her mother ; sad !
Au revoir les enfants : set during WWII ; Jewish school boy gets shelter from a school during the
Occupation ; beautiful, sad tale based on real events
Sugar Cane Alley: (Rue Cases Negres) Set in Martinique; family story about living and working
on a sugar cane plantation
Paper Wedding: like Green Card
Les 400 coups (400 blows): Truffaut film about the difficulty of growing up
L’Enfant Sauvage (Wild Child) : child raised in the woods and then comes to “civilization”;
Truffaut again
A la folie, pas de tout (He loves me. He loves me not) : light love story
Le Papillon (The Butterfly : Be careful ! There is a Spanish film by the same title!!!! This one is about a
young girl’s special relationship with a “grandfather” figure who teaches her life lessons)
