The young Lac-Supérieur athlete will be the nutritionist for the company. In return, the health centre will encourage and support the sports activities of its young recruit, giving her a timely and welcome hand with her career, which is in full swing. Ariane, age 26, has a number of ideas to boost the Scandinave to new heights: a juice bar, snack counter, yoga retreats, personalized nutritional counselling and more. “I want to work with people who share my values, bring in some new energy, get off the beaten track, and add value to an already outstanding business,” she says, adding, “The Scandinave emphasizes well-being. It’s a win-win partnership.” An accomplished athlete Like many athletes from this area, Ariane was on the slopes from a very young age. Her parents are keen skiers. As a teen she became a member of the Club de ski Mont-Tremblant, participating in numerous alpine skiing competitions and gaining a place in the Laurentian division of the FIS. At 17, she was a member of the Québec Team in snowboarding before being recruited for the National team. But she had to make a choice: school or competitive snowboarding. Wanting to make the best long-term decision, she concentrated on her studies in nutrition at the Université de Montréal, obtaining her degree in 2007. Ariane took advantage of the break from active competition to get involved in other sports, including kite surfing, mountain biking, surfing and yoga. Throughout the period of her studies she took on numerous personal challenges. Today, snowboarding allows her to travel the world and to set goals for herself that are increasingly attainable. Her results are improving year over year, and her progress is nothing short of spectacular. This year she was a standout, finishing the season with the championship in the 2011 NorAm Cup! Sochi in 2014 Her new goal is to be among the top 16 in the World Cup so that she can qualify in the elimination rounds. “Once I get there,” she says, “anything can happen. I have good momentum. I’m heading in the right direction. All I have to do is keep going.” To do this, she adds, consistency is ultra important. You have to stay in top physical shape and be technically fast, as well as remaining mentally confident. This summer Ariane anticipates focusing on training more specific to her sport, including participation in a three-week camp in Chile. For the longer term, she’s aiming for the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi (Russia) in 2014. “As far as I’m concerned,” notes Ariane, “the Olympics aren’t everything, but they’re the ultimate.” To encourage herself, she mentions the example of Jasey-Jay Anderson, one of her many inspirations. “It took him a number of titles before he won the Olympics,” she remarks.
