We are dedicating the April
Cine Club to the great French
director Alain Resnais, whose
career has extended over
more than six decades. He Alain Resnais
began making feature films
in the late 1950s which adopted unconventional
narrative techniques to deal with themes of
troubled memory and the imagined past. These
films were contemporary, and associated with, the
French “New Wave” or nouvelle vague, though
Resnais felt himself closer to the “Left Bank”
group of authors and filmmakers who shared a
commitment to modernism and an interest in
left-wing
politics.
Hiroshima Mon Amour
Throughout his career he
has won many awards
from international film
festivals and academies.

The Paper Airplanes Project Kampala: Voices on the
Edge National Theatre Upper Gardens
Friday April 15 at 6pm. 10,000/5,000 for students

Hiroshima, 1958. A French actress working on an
antiwar film falls in love with a Japanese architect
before her return to France, the couple learn about one
another and share the secrets of a dark past.
21.04. L’Année Dernière à Marienbad
In a baroque, fairytale chateau, a man turns up to keep
an appointment promised to a woman the year before.
Yet although the woman is there, she doesn’t remember.
The man sets out to win her back through a labyrinth of
gold and marble where time seems to stand still
28.04. Stavisky
France, July 1993. Leon Trotsky secretly arrives in Cassis.
The French government has granted him political
asylum. At the same time, Serge Alexandre, a.k.a.
Stavisky, is rocking the Parisian political and financial
scene with his many dealings and squandering millions.

answers construct and deconstruct themselves along
the axis of time. Madagascan dancer Julie Iasora’s
RECTO-VERSO upholds difference as the only link
between two beings that are separated by everything

Belobo is the most celebrated African opera singer in
