At the time, it was restricted for use by the De Fonscolombe family, which included the famous author and aviator Saint-Exupéry. Much later a real agreement was concluded, in November 1986, between the State and the management setting out the conditions for developing, maintaining and operating the aerodrome. In 1995, the aerodrome was given an International Air Transport Association (IATA) code. • The Verne dam: an artificial reservoir providing the population of the country of Maures and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez with drinking water throughout the year. Fishing, swimming and boating are not allowed on the reservoir but the view is outstanding. • The old village: on top of the hill, to the north, on the rock of Saint Madeleine, are the ruins of La Môle’s first village and Saint Madeleine chapel. • Saint Madeleine chapel: set at the foot of a brown basalt formation, the chapel looks rather like a castle. • The castle: 1 km from La Môle. This is a very ancient estate, first recorded in 1008. It is a typically Provencal residence featuring a facade with five windows flanked by two huge round towers. In his childhood, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry enjoyed spending his holidays here with his grandparents. Private estate, not open to the public. • Panoramas: The Col of Canadel (267m) and Les Pradels (528m). informationS I 2013 The airport, between history and nature... y l’aeroport entre histoire et nature 17 darwinairline.com +41 (0)91 208 70 80 horaires vols GENÈVE ST. Naissance d’un mythe 24 The legend of Saint-Tropez tells of the Christian Centurion Torpés, decapitated at the order of the Néron Emperor, he was put in a boat and delivered to the flood wlth a cock and a dog. It was thought that the animals would attack and devour the corpse but they left the body intact. The boat turned up at the coast on the exact site of what was to become Torpès later the village of Saint-Tropez. International Star of tourism, Saint-Tropez played an important part in the creation of the Riviera. When the artistic and intellectual Parisians started to descend on Saint-Tropez in the 1950’s they were bewitched by the charm of the small port. A myth was created with the arrival of Brigitte Bardot in the sixties Its fate was sealed and it. Has since become one of the most preferred destinations of the rich and famous. In the harbour, the yachts compete with their size, crew and the beautiful creatures who appear on board. On the culinary the yachts jostling for importance are inhabited by outrogeously beautiful creatures who descend into the night to the awe of the watching crowds.
